from summer to fall

shifting gears
With the kids back in school, life is slowly returning to routine, and I’m getting ready to dive back into studio work. Summer was a blast, but there’s something special about this transition to fall here in the Annapolis Valley. The weather cools down, and it feels like a good time to refocus. September is "local's summer," but it’s also the heart of harvest season and the valley gets busier than ever. We're hitting up the Wolfville Farmer's Market, picking apples in Greenwich, grabbing honey at Noggins, and waiting for the Pumpkin People to appear in Kentville.
Beach Day
Over the summer, I’ve been painting my Beach Day collection, which celebrates everything I love about being by the sea: shorebirds, seashells, and colours that remind me of lazy days by the ocean. I loved painting on the beach and using saltwater and natural pigments from PEI. If you haven’t already, take a look at these pieces—I hope they give you that summer feeling all year long.
further up and further in!
With summer in the rearview, I’m excited to start my new collection: F/W Birds. This series feels like a natural next step from Beach Day but with a cozy, fall twist. These paintings will bring in warm tones, layered scribbles (it's giving stick season), and the deeper colours of fall. I’ve been feeling super inspired by hunter green lately, so expect to see that coming through. This collection is inspired by the changing seasons.
this & that
Some things I've been loving lately:
- We're all on Pumpkin People watch! It's always exciting seeing these gourds take over Kentville. This year's theme is Game Night.
- I'm spending rainy days and cozy evenings reading with a dysfunctional family drama in one hand and fantasy in the other. I just finished The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo and Wicked (really excited for the new movie coming out in November!).
- Maritime Express' new Pumpkin Chai cider -- new favourite cider unlocked!
- The Last Dinner Party's album Prelude to Ecstasy has become the soundtrack to every studio session. I would describe their sound as plugging headphones into a neoclassical painting.
- Greens! Chromium green, sap green, green gold, hooker's green, mixing my own... Picasso had his blue era, and this could be mine for green.
It feels good to be back in the studio and diving into something new. Stay tuned for updates on F/W birds, or take a peek at the Beach Day collection if you haven't already!
